European Update

Dear Friends and Supporters,

God has recently encouraged my heart with 2 Corinthians 4:7 "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us." It is so easy for us to take the glory for what we have accomplished, but as I read this verse I am again reminded that we are just earthen vessels (Crackpots, or pots with cracks) easily broken and very fragile. But God has chosen to place the gospel treasure in people like us in order that He will get all the glory for anything that we have done and are doing. God delights in manifesting His great POWER through these jars of clay. One great Bible Teacher of our time points out that when God wanted to communicate His message, He didn't go to the elite of Egypt, Greece, Rome, or even to the elite of Israel. Where did He go? He went to the shores of Galilee and found a bunch of fishermen.

This Bible teacher continues by saying: "He passed by Herodotus the historian, Socrates and Plato the philosophers, Hippocrates the father of medicine, Euclid the mathematician, Archimedes the father of mechanics, Hipparchus the astronomer, Cicero the orator and Virgil the poet. He chose a little hunchback Jew (Paul) with a deformed face without great oratorical abilities. He put in that little clay pot the priceless treasure and is still doing it today."

I just finished reading a book written by one of our dear friends from our time at Briercrest Bible Collage, Murray Carter. Just a farm boy from Western Canada, but God used him to start one of the great church movements in India and then moved him to Italy in his latter years. God is still using earthen vessels today. How do I know that? He is still using us and we are so thankful for the privilege of being used by God.

January and February were very busy months for us. Gregor Breier, our German Concert Pianist, was here again in March. We were so thankful for the response of the people even in the midst of this financial crisis here in USA. We are now planning our next tours with Gregor as well as meetings that we will be having in Pennsylvania and Connecticut during July and August. The tour with Gregor in October will take us through the New England states as well as northern New York State.

We are still battling this cancerous tumor in Betts' chest area and would ask for special prayer on May 25th by her next examination. If her tumor markings have not gone down through the heavy medicine, we will have to do something else. We are not sure what our doctor will suggest this time. As you probably have concluded, we are just earthen vessels with all kinds of cracks. In the midst of this all, we have such a deep desire that God will use us for His Glory. Thank you for your prayers. I trust that you will be blessed as you read the reports of our leaders in Europe. We are especially happy for the work in Hungary which will be celebrating their 20th anniversary on the 14 and 15th of this month. Looking back to the beginnings of this great work, I still marvel at the way God was able to use this vessel of clay even before the wall, dividing Eastern and Western Europe, came down. To God be all the glory!

Italy also celebrated their 25th anniversary the beginning of this year with meetings all over that great country with Dr. Joe Jordan and our director Marion Portillo. They are in the process of buying a camp property right now and have a matching fund of $150,000. If we can help them in any way right now, we can double our money.

Thank you again for your faithful support and prayers for all of our leaders and their staff in Europe and Africa.

Our love and prayers,

Bob & Betts Parschauer

European Update

Austria

Herwig and Claudia Lamb are holding meetings all over Austria in churches, ministering in song and Word. Herwig will hold seminars at the large Youth Conference, May 21-24th weekend. About 500 youth will be present. Dr. Klaus Eickhoff will be invited for two homiletics seminars to be held at our center in Villach the first weekend in June. This is for pastors in their area. Willy and Tania have planned 4 weekend camps and are praying for young people and children from the village area to attend. Herwig will be traveling to Berlin in June to teach the book of Revelation to our students at the Esra Training school. Please pray for our team in Austria.

-Andy Wenzel

Bulgaria

The Bible Club Ministry continues to grow and it is such a blessing to bless the churches with our Bible Club programs. We will be in Ukraine from May 14-16th for the annual missionary conference with some of our youth from Bulgaria. Pray for decisions that will be eternal during that time. Our summer children and teenager camps are planned for July 18-August 1. Pray especially for preparation of the counselors.

-Sergii and Tania Tyshchenko

Czech Republic

We praise God for what He has done in our three winter camps this year. Many got saved and some are now coming to our Bible Club in Brno. We have linked up with a Baptist church in that city and have seen great growth, in numbers as well as spirituality. We began a few months ago with 7 teens coming and it has now grown to 7. These teens are on fire for God and are witnessing in their school as well as memorizing Bible verses and doing their quiet time. God is at work1

-Rich and Alissa Hood

France

On May 24th, a missions reality group of BI students are coming from Quebec Canada, to work with our French team. We will be holding our 3rd Superbowl event just before they come on Saturday, May 22nd. Our family day at the camp grounds will happen on June 27th. The Ecouen (Paris) Center has been open since mid-January and is a huge blessing, functioning as a Word of Life Christian Retreat Center. Our camp season from July 4th to August 7th will host 5 sessions of teenagers. We need your prayers. We have also started an important expansion phase at the Camp Property and will need teams of workers this fall to help us build.

-Rob Stetson

Germany

While this report is being written, our team, along with students from Bibelschule Brake, is on the road with the musical, "The Revelation." They will be in halls and city auditoriums all over the country again this year. During the last 20 years, 150,000 people have experienced "The Revelation" just in German Speaking Europe. Hundreds have received Christ. Larry and Joy Locken will be doing a tour throughout Germany from September 22 until October 10th with our second and third generation music teams and leaders in Germany. Pray that this will again be used to lead many to Christ and that our German staff will be greatly encouraged. The youth camps are already almost all booked out for the coming summer. Pray for a great harvest of souls. Pray for the Bible Institute in Berlin, the Children's' camps and musicals (the "Christmas Joy" tour with Alex Lombardi was a great success), the brass concerts, the music seminars, the family camps, and the many other daily activities.

-Amy and Esther Wenzel

Kenya

This past December was one of the greatest camp months that we have ever experienced with over 2000 campers in attendance just in that month in Nairobi, Mombasa and seven additional locations in Kenya. What a joy to see many come to Christ in these satellite camps. We were in Western Kenya in Oyugis; Northern Kenya Marsabit; Eastern Kanya in Kitui, Machakos and Mwea as well as the slums outside of Nairobi. Since December, we have been very involved with our 21 Bible School Students. What a joy to see them develop as they minister in schools and churches on the weekends. Our new hall is finally finished for which we praise the Lord! Thank you to all of you who have helped us financially with this great project. We just had a very bad wind storm in Kenya a couple days ago and three of our buildings in Mombasa lost their roofs.

Uganda

Thomas Obunde, a young man who was led to Christ through our work in Kenya, went to WOLBI in USA and is now leading this great work in Uganda. God gave us a wonderful property in Kampala that is being used to win literally hundreds of young people to Christ. David Baguma has been given the responsibility to coordinate the University ministries in this country. He took a group of University students recently to Mombasa in Kenya where he was able to really impact their lives. He has asked us to pray that God will raise up future leaders from these students. You will hear more about this work in the future. They are not only holding camps in Kampala, but also in the war torn Northern region of Uganda

-Bob Parschauer

Hungary

As is happening all over Word of Life in Europe a new generation of leadership is being trained. One of those leaders is Gabor Csikos. He was raised in a Godly Hungarian home and attended our camp for the first time in 1991. He dedicated his life to the Lord at a Word of Life Euro Youth conference in Germany in 1994, went to our Bible Institute and after graduation joined our staff. Pray for Gabor and his wife Tunde as they take on more and more leadership rolls in Hungary. In February this year we had great winter camps in Hungary and Poland. The Born Again to a Living Hope Drama tour in April took us to many schools and churches in Hungary, Transylvania and Romania. Several great Bible teachers were guest professors at our Bible Institute this year. Dr. Jimmy DeYoung taught prophesy, Dr. Kalman Meszaros taught Church History, and Dr. Michael Glenhorn taught Apologetics.

We also had 30 2nd year BI students from USA doing a missions reality course in Hungary in March this year

-Alex and Pam Konya

Serbia

Preparations are being made for our camps in this country again. Please be in prayer for our leaders there and especially for the counselors, some who will come from our Bible Institute in Hungary

-Alex

Italy

We celebrated the last 25 years of ministry with activities all over Italy with our Director Joe Jordan. We began March 4th in Mirano in the province of Venice and from there to the Island of Sardina, then to the city of Alghero, on to Rome and teh city of Vasto where the camp property is that we are looking to the Lord to give to us. We again celebrated in Fano on March 20-21 and also in Lagnano March 26-28. What a wonderful month of celebrations we had. Thank you for all your prayers and support over the years. Many came to Christ during these celebrations. Praise the Lord.

-Mario and Norma Portillo

Lithuania

God has given us a new addition to our family and little Sophia has been a real door opener for us to talk to the doctor's and nurses about what we are doing and relate to them that we are here to tell the people of the Baltic countries about Christ. That spring we organized evangelistic seminars to teach personal evangelism. We now have a small team of about 10 youth from our local Bible club who are going with us onto the streets to do personal evangelism. These young people are between the ages of 17 and 23 years of age. It is just incredible to see the change in the spiritual life of a young person when he goes out to share his or her faith in this way. We see some great leaders for the future developing before our eyes. Ana Laura's ladies Bible study had also become a real hit. The girls are growing every week. We are now advertising for the summer camps and have already rented a camp property for these summer camps. Thank you for your prayers.

-Michai and Ana Laura Bucur

Poland

Our biggest conference ever! Some were turned away from our Winter Camp and conference for lack of room. A wonderful group of Bible School students from our Hungarian BI were here to assist us in this great conference on prayer. Four young people accepted Christ and all were truly blessed. Our living room was over crowded again with 49 people at our leaders weekend. These are Bible Club leaders learning new ways to reach the youth of Poland with the Gospel. We are also praying that the dollar keep rising in value towards the Euro so that we will have funds to renovate our new property when we move in, possibly in August.

-Tim and Virginia Good

Portugal

On May 1st, we had a great Sports Marathon on our property with many decisions for Christ. Our yearly Bible Club Leadership Training Conference with Mike Calhoun happened on May 14-15th. What a joy to see the response of our club leaders. The annual Family Day is coming up with Joe and Melva Jordan on June 3. Just a few more weeks and our July and August camps will begin. Thank you for your prayers for all of these activities. God has been so good to us.

-David and Pat West

Romania

We are so thankful for the great ministry of the last few weeks. Our team just returned from an evangelistic outreach. Over 1700 youth were reached in schools and jails. Many have been saved and are requesting Bible Courses and New Testaments. During our sports marathon with 16 teams participating, 18 youth made a decision to receive Christ into their lives. Please be in prayer for those new Christians. We are now in the process of preparing for the summer camps. We will have camps in Romania, Greece, and Turkey. Please continue to pray for the support of our team leaders in Turkey and Greece, that they will soon have their full support. Our leader from Greece will be traveling with Bob Parschauer and Gregor Breier on a tour throughout New England, New York State, and Pennsylvania in October this year.

-Juan and Kim Silas

Spain

We are so happy that God had at last sent us a new family to join our staff in Spain. Sergio and Noemi Martinez have moved to Spain to work into a leadership position in this country. Sergio is a great spiritual leader who has been working in Portugal the last few years. Sergio will jump right into the ministry here because he already knows the language. Would you pray for this family as they transition to this country? Pray also for their much needed support. Thank you for praying for our work here with the church, Bible clubs and camps.

-Beto and Crystal Tarasiuk

Ukraine

This year has been very busy. We ended 2009 and started 2010 with a Christmas tour that literally went to every part of Ukraine. We started in Central Ukraine, from there to the Eastern part and then to Crimea in the south and the tour ended in Western Ukraine in the Carpathian Mts. Many came to Christ! In March, our missionaries, Matias and Sergei, went to Kazakhstan for a tour with the Baptist Union there. They travelled 4700 Km and preached 20 times in two evangelistic campaigns. The doors are open in Kazakhstan and they are begging us to come and start Word of Life there full time. Meanwhile, with our BI students, every Friday and Monday, we present the born again to a living hope in high schools and every Saturday and Sunday we are on the streets of Kiev, doing open air evangelism. Many, many are coming to Christ every week. In April, we hosted the missions reality students from WOLBI in New York. Please pray for the preparations of the summer camps which will be held in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan this year.

-Jorge and Laura Radziwiluk

United Kingdom

Cherri and I returned home after a week of intense ministry in Northern Ireland to find out that our neighbor had an extra ticket to a football game and I went. The next morning, a couple walked into our church service, the woman a Christian, the man unsaved. He seldom came to church, that this Sunday he did. He was also at the game the night before and saw me there. When he found out that we were cheering for the same team he said he would listen to my message. That morning, he got saved. What a joy it is for Cherri and me to see our associate staff at work all over this country. God is using them in personal witness, in our discipleship program, in our camps, in the public school ministries, and in their home churches.

-Dave and Cheri Kelso

Bob & Betts Parschauer: European Representative

To our Dear Supporters and Prayer Partners:

Psalm 73:28 "But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God. That I may declare all Your works."

January and February have been very busy months for Betts and me with doctor visits, watching our grandsons play basketball, Missions Conference at Word of Life Florida, meetings with Pastor's, but most of all preparation for the tours this spring. At the present time Ildiko and Bela Doros from Word of Life Hungary are here with us and we are having some wonderful meetings with them.

It is especially meaningful for Betts and me to have Ildiko here as she has been working with us since 1983 in Hungary. We first met her shortly after she had completed her Doctor of Law degree in Hungary. It was February of 1983 during the time when Christians were still being persecuted, but things were beginning to open up in Hungary. We as a Quartet went to Hungary at that time and were welcomed by Ildiko's church family. That was the beginning of an incredible ministry in that part of Europe. Ildiko's ministry as the director of legal matters has, over the years, been invaluable. Without her I don't know how we would have been able to function with all of the legal changes that were taking place as Hungary became a free country after being under communism for so many years. Bela, who went to the youth group in that same church and later moved to USA with his family, came back to Hungary in 2005 and met Ildiko again and one year later married her. They are now working together and are very actively involved in the new work going on in Serbia. Right now we are in the process of raising the funds needed for a van for them, to be used for transporting students to the various ministries that they are involved in. Would you pray with us that we will get the $25,000 needed for that van? They are also looking for added support as the dollar has lost so much value.

In spite of the economical problems in Hungary right now, God is doing great work and many are being saved and discipled through this ministry.

I just got word today from Tim Good that they are planning to sign the contract tomorrow, March 5th, for the new property that they have been raising funds for. This is another miracle that we are praising God for. Just a few months ago we all were wondering if this was going to happen, and it has happened again. Praise the Lord! Tim just wrote recently this will truly be an ideal place for us to set up this "Center of Refuge" for Polish teenagers.

Our German Concert Pianist Gregor Breier is coming again on March 12/10. This will be my 20th tour throughout USA and Canada with him during the last 18 years. Gregor has assisted me in raising literally hundreds of thousands of dollars for many of our countries in Europe as well as Africa. Now it is our privilege to raise some very needed funds for his ministry in Germany and German speaking Europe. Would you pray with us as we are on tour?

We appreciate so much your support and prayers for us. So many of you have told us that you are especially praying for Betts. Thanks so much! We have another visit with Bets' Oncologist right after the tour with Gregor is completed, March 30th. We are praying that her cancerous tumor will react to the medicine that she is taking right now and no other treatment will be necessary.

We have put our trust in the Lord and our deepest desire is to continue to declare the wonderful works of the Lord until He comes to take us home to be with Him.

Our love and prayers,

Bob and Betts Parschauer - European Update

December 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Right now I am going through the book of Revelation in my "Quiet Time." I just read about the church in Philadelphia this morning. Rev. 3:8, "I know your works. See I have set before you an OPEN DOOR, and no one can shut it: For you have little strenght, have kept My Word and have not denied my name." God has certainly opened the door for us in Europe and it looks like it will be open for a long time. Our prayer is that it will remain open until our Lord returns to take His church home. There are times when we sure do feel as if we have little strength, but when we are weak, then we are strong!

This past month has been filled with activities, the highlight being my trip to Germany and Austria with my sons Bobby and Brent. It was a great time of blessing for us as we reviewed what the Lord has done in Europe over the last 45 years and the way that these German castles have been used of God over the past 40 years to influence the lives of literally thousands of people. 150 thousand campers and guests have been ministered to just in these castles.

I was again overwhelmed with our German staff and also our Board of Directors. What a Godly group of men! Many of whom were challenged to dedicate their live to the service of the Lord during our 25 years of ministry in Germany. Lawyers, a medical Doctor, influential businessmen, tax consultants, Bible school teachers, and even a brother who is very involved in politics.

Another highlight for me was the special day to honor Betts and me for our service in Germany and me for 45 years of serving on the German Board. I became what they call "An Honorary Word of Life German Board member." They really celebrated with a great dinner. After dinner we went to the meeting room and looked at old pictures, laughed, cried and I was so humbled to think that the men and women were so thankful for our ministry over the years.

Here we are again with our UPDATE about what is happening all over Europe today. I trust that you will be encouraged as we are at all that God is doing.

This has not been an easy year for Betts and me, but we praise the Lord for all the lessons learned and for His matchless grace and continued encouragement even during down times. Betts has been diagnosed with another cancerous tumor, but our doctor is keeping his eye on it and we are trying to shrink it with milder medication instead of again having to go through radiation or chemotherapy. We are so thankful for all of you who have been so faithful in praying for us and especially for Betts. God is so good to us even in spite of all the difficulties that we have encountered during the past year. We are so overwhelmed and also humbled by the way God is caring for us through His dear children.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support for this great work to which God has called us! We want to continue to serve as long as God gives us strength.

Our love and prayers,

Bob and Betts Parschauer

European Update

Austria
Two new board members joined our Austrian board at our annual board meeting this past November 15th. Both of them are very gifted musically. NEW OPEN DOORS. Andy Wenzel and Bob Parschauer Sr. joined us for this special meeting. Herwig and Claudia are busy teaching and singing and Willy and Tania are very involved in youth and student ministries. The snow camps were again a great success with many from Germany taking part in the camps.
-Andy Wenzel

Bulgaria
Our family day picnic was a great blessing and resulted in a good number of new campers attending our camps this past summer. This summer we had 38 campers and 11 made a decision to receive Christ as their Savior. Several of our helpers were graduates of our Bible Institute in Ukraine. The rest were from our Bible Clubs. New OPEN DOORS for these dear young people.
-Sergii and Tania Tyshchenko

Czech Republic
An experience from last summer. It was Wednesday night and we were preparing for our weekly camp fire dedication meeting. Just before it was to start, we had a downpour for over an hour, of heavy torrential rain. The creek began flooding, water was flowing over the bridge and the creek rose to the edge of our dining room. What a mess outside. We held our dedication service in the dining room with great testimonies after the message 29 young people responded by coming forward to dedicate their lives to serve the Lord. Even a tragedy can OPEN DOORS. Our entire summer was filled with blessings. Many were saved and others dedicated their lives to serve the Lord.
-Rich and Aliss Hood

France
Our superbowl in Paris in May was a great success, thanks to a team from Word of Life Quebec who helped us with the program and the Gospel presentation. This was only our second event in Paris and we had 200 youth in attendance and 20 salvation decisions. Summer camp was a huge success with many coming to Christ and 5 young people are now attending our WOL BI in Argentina as a result of these camps. We are thankful for the work teams from Nehemiah Network that helped us with the final renovations of our Paris property. The official opening is planned for January 2010. New OPEN DOORS. The center has 17 rooms and 42 beds. Pray for our upcoming Winter Bible conference with Kris Stout on relationships. We are expecting 150 people between the ages of 15-25.
-Rob Stetson

Germany
This year was filled with activities beginning with snow camps in January and February, the German Brass tour and Gregor tour in USA in March, and April. The evangelistic meetings with Andy, Detlef, and Gregor. The musical festivals with Gregor, and Kids Action programs with Alex Lombardi, Family and Music Camps, Fitness and Fasching camps week end ministries and German Brass concerts in Germany with Georg Scheller and the summer camps now run by two new young men Bernd Lornz and Chrstian Gunka. Not to forget the Bible Inst. Directed by Matt Hurja and Joe Frick on Lake Koeres just South East of Berlin. Many new OPEN DOORS.
-Andy and Esther Wenzel

Kenya
What a year! Surely “All things work together for good to those who love the Lord.” Through the events of this last year (having to flee our property in Nairobi, and being unable to reach a lot of the schools we had been ministering to) God has opened new doors for us through satellite camps away from our property. In the last year since then, we have had 4,400 campers. More than 300 salvation decisions, many more dedication commitments, and even several Muslim youth who received Christ. We are now again in the midst of our December camping season and would appreciate your prayers.
-Chris and Theresa Mwalw’a

Hungary
As we look back on 2009 it seems that God is building bridges to a new generation of leadership. Also bridges to new OPEN DOORS! Paul Weaver is our new Bible Inst. Director, Gabor Csikos now leads our outreach teams. We now have two “Born Again to a Living Hope” drama teams going out to accommodate all the invitations from the public schools, prisons, and local culture houses. We are also building new Financial Bridges since the dollar has lost 16% since March this year. God is doing great things in Hungary! Thank you for your faithful prayers and financial help. Continue to pray for our new team in the country of Serbia. They need our support. In all we had 320 campers of which 191 were new campers and 67% were completely unchurched. About 125 accepted Christ. We are beginning to see the Bible Club program grow. OPEN DOORS
-Alex and Pam Konya

Lithuania
We held our first ever camp in Lithuania this past summer. What a job to minister to 135 young people and see 35 receive Christ and 50 dedicate their lives to serve the Lord. Almost half of the campers were unsaved before coming to camp. This is unique in Lithuania for a Christian Camp. Pray for us as we continue to study the language and at the same time lead the ministry. The Bible clubs began again in September and we also had a great youth conference with many decisions for Christ. Already we have numerous opportunities to hold seminars on evangelism. OPEN DOORS!
-Mihai and Ana Laura Bucur

Poland
When Israel crossed the Jordan River they set up 12 memorial stones so that generations to come might know that the hand of the Lord is mighty. Some of our stones this year. Summer sports camps, all told 320 campers. 20 received Christ. Missions camps, where 952 heard the Gospel in an individual conversation. Our new Polish Ministry Center is the next great stone that was set this year. We are still in need of many more dollars to make this a reality. We would be thankful for any help that you could give us at this time. Clubs are up and running again and our 20/20 Training Camp are in the new planning stages right now. More OPEN DOORS!
-Tim and Virginia Good

Portugal
Our annual Family day event was a great success with over 600 people here. As the Gospel was proclaimed by Wendell Calder, 24 adults and two young people accepted Christ. Another 14 people came to Christ during the next week of conference on our property. This was just before our summer camp season which was again blessed beyond any of our expectations. Now we are in the middle of our winter program with Bible clubs, leadership conferences week end evangelistic meetings as well as Christian tours. Thank you for your prayers for us. Many new OPEN DOORS this year!
-David and Pat West

Romania
What a year God has given us! During a six day Medical Clinic 761 people were treated and 36 received Christ. More than 7000 high school students heard the Gospel during 110 presentations of Born Again to a Living Hope. Over 700 received Christ. 47 soccer and volleyball teams (570 young people) participated in our one day sports outreach. 14 made a decision for Christ. Then came the summer camps with many decisions for Christ. Now we are going into our Christmas presentations after a great fall children’s ministry, Leadership conference as well as the Bible Clubs all over the country. Our biggest victory this year was the completion of our Transylvania Bible School and Camp property. This is phase #1 of our building project. We still have much more to do, and are so thankful for all who are helping us financially and for all the OPEN DOORS that God is giving us. Please be in prayer for our new teams that are now established in Turkey and Greece. These new teams are in need of support in order to grow these new ministries.
-Juan and Kim Silas

Spain
We had 70 young people at our summer camp and 7 made a decision to receive Christ into their hearts. This fall we had a Dynamic Youth conference as well as a Dynamic Marriage conference with 120 participants each. What a joy to see the response as we taught them from the Word of God. At the present time we have 15 students in our Discipleship Training center. Pray for them that many will become servants of the Lord. During the last 6 months of evangelistic meetings we are seeing many come to Christ. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.
-Beto and Crystal Tarasiuk

Ukraine
As I write this, Dr. Chuck Scheide is in the Ukraine as a guest professor, teaching at the Ukraine WOLBI. Many pastor’s and teacher’s from America, South America and other countries in Europe are called to assist the teaching of these great students from many countries of Eastern Europe. God has opened a great door in this part of the world and we need to get behind them, because they are the future of all of these countries, which were for so many years under the closed doors of communism. These doors are now open, but we do not know if they will be closed again. We had a great summer of camping this past summer and many came to Christ. WE were also in Russia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan with teams from the Ukraine. “Our Born again to a living hope” musicals have been in many of these countries since this summer and many other evangelistic activities are happening right now. Young people are being trained to move into these countries as future leaders. We need your prayers and help to influence these Eastern European countries for Christ.
-Jorge and Laura Radziwiluk

United Kingdom
Through our different evangelistic activities we are seeing people come to Christ every week. Our camps were a great blessing again with many saved. The school ministry is also expanding! We need more workers. We especially saw God work in August and September in three one week crusades in Northern Ireland and North of London England. We had young people from all over the British Isles at our youth conference in October. We have two new programs to reach the parents of the campers that have received Christ at our camps. One is a “Quiz night”, the other is called “Murder Mysteries”. These nights of fun end with a gospel presentation. New OPEN DOORS.
-Dave and Cheri Kelso

Letter from Europe

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Just a few days ago I read a verse in my quiet time that expresses the desire of my heart. Psalm 79:13 "So we your people and the sheep of your pasture will give thanks for ever: we will show forth your praise to all generations."

This is a special letter to all of you in order that we can praise the Lord together for all that has happened in Germany, Europe and Africa over the past 45 years. In December 1964, the Word of Life quartet along with their families moved to Germany to begin what would be a movement that would move Germany to Kenya East Africa and all across Europe in the next 45 years.

During the first 4 years in Germany we rented camp grounds in Germany, Holland, Norway and Austria, all the time looking for a property that would be an attraction to the young people of Germany. In 1969, we finally found the two castles on Lake Starnberg, just south of Munich and very close to the Bavarian Alps. What a beautiful place the Lord gave us.

In the spring of 1969, we were able to lease the yellow castle from the German government and just celebrated our 40th anniversary at this castle in July of this year. In 1971, we leased the second castle, the Seeburg, just 500 yards from the yellow castle.

I just received a letter from our German director, Andy Wenzel, telling us that over the last 40 years, 150,000 guests have been at one of our camps and conferences, just in Germany. Thousands have received Christ into their hearts, and there is no way of counting the young people who have personally counseled over the years. Almost every Evangelical mission organization in Germany now has people working for them, who dedicated their lives to serve Christ, right there at these castles in Germany. All the praise belongs to God for all that he has done.

Maybe you are asking, "Why are you going back over all these years?" The reason being that we were told some time ago that these castles will be sold and the price is approximately $20 million. There is no way that we could possibly pay this price and the only way that we can continue using these facilities is that God would again move the heart of the King (government).

Just yesterday, September 8th, the finance minister of Bavaria came to our town together with numerous reporters, local politicians as well as influential Christian leaders. Andy Wenzel handed him 12,000 letters from people all over German asking the finance minister to reconsider his decision regarding the castles. It looks like God is beginning to change the minds of those in charge of these properties. Could I ask that all of you who receive this letter be in prayer that we will be able to continue using these castles? Please make known in all of your churches as well as your prayer groups that God would again intervene and that His will be done regarding the future use of these wonderful properties.

Alex Konya just sent a letter telling all that God has done in Hungary and Serbia this past summer. They had 1100 campers with 178 who publically professed to trust Christ and 111 teens who dedicated their lives to Christ. Praise the Lord! 40% of these campers were from broken homes, which makes the follow up process very difficult, but not impossible.

Sergi Tyshchenko sent a note from Bulgaria telling about their last camp with 22 young people attending. 11 accepted Christ into their hearts. Praise the Lord!

Mihai and Ana Laura Bucur reported that they had 135 people at their first ever camp in Lithuania with 35 decisions for salvation and 50 dedicating their lives to serve the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Juan Silas from Romania called me from Turkey where they were holding camps this summer and gave a report, telling of the Muslim young people, that they have received Christ and need our prayers. They will experience persecution as this is made known to their parents. Juan also said that the camps in Romania were going very well, with many decisions to Christ. 7000 attended the Born Again to a Living Hope concerts with 700 receiving Christ. Out of 570 participants in their soccer and volleyball tournaments this year, 14 made a decision for Christ. Praise the Lord!

Jorge Radziwiluk held camps not only in Ukraine this summer but also in Kazakhstan, Russia and Latvia with hundreds of youth receiving Christ into their lives.

I received a note from Chris Mwalwa in Kenya, telling of the camps this past year and also in August in Kabete and Mombasa as well as Mwea in Eastern Kenya and the slums of Nairobi. 4400 campers attended and there were 300 new decisions for Christ. Please pray for the follow up that is going on right now. Praise the Lord!

We will give thanks forever and praise God for the privilege of seeing all these people coming to Christ during this past summer! As you may have noticed, I have especially highlighted the countries that are doing camps in new countries for Word of Life Europe. Please be in prayer as leaders are being trained to officially establish the ministered in these countries. I will give you a full report from all of our European countries in our next European Update.

In the midst of all these blessings we have experienced attacks from Satan in each of these countries and also some very difficult family trials and pressures. We would appreciate your prayers for us as a family as well as all our staff in Europe and Africa.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support for this great work!

Bob & Betts Parschauer: European Update

AUSTRIA
Word of Life Germany and Austria will be working together as they host the Ski Camps at our property in Austria. Please pray for many who attend. Herwig and Claudia Lamb

BULGARIA
We are so thankful for the response of our Bible Club youth. We have two young adults at our Bible Institute in Ukraine, preparing to join our staff as missionaries. Please pray for our first winter camp this year in Bulgaria. Our great need is for a center in the Varna area where we can meet with our youth. Sergie and Tania Tyschenko

BALTIC COUNTRIES
We are so thankful for the friends who we are getting to know, who are assisting us in getting settled in Lithuania. We now have our visa's for the first two years, have found an apartment that we now call home and finally have a vehicle. Our first Bible Club has begun in September in a church in Vinius, where we have been working among the youth for this last year. Pray for us as we are still in Language study and already have so many opportunities. Mihai and Ana Laura Bucur

CZECH REPUBLIC
Wow! It is hard to believe we just had our fourth Wed. night camp fire. 21 accepted Christ in this camp. 76 have already been saved and 50 dedicated their lives to serve the Lord. Many more got saved during this summer, but our greatest experience was our first camp in Slovakia. 50 youth attended and 14 accepted Christ. Please pray for the follow up of these new converts. Many come from homes of unbelieving families and there are so few good churches to do the follow up that is needed. Rich and Alissa Hood

FRANCE
This summer during our 5 weeks of camp 252 teenagers attended the Word of Life France. 30 received Christ and many made life changing decisions in their walk with the Lord. Every year, more of our teens are heading to Word of Life Bible Institutes around the world and soon will be joining us in the work here in France. We had our largest ever Bible Club meeting in the Paris area with 140 teens from that area attending. What a great time of blessing we experienced. At the present time we are working hard to finish the renovations of our new Paris Youth Center, and hope to be open by next summer. Three large Word of Life Christmas concerts are scheduled in the Paris area with our sing team, just in time for the release of our first CD! In February we still hold our second winter Youth Bible Conference off-site, because it is already to large for our facilities! God is opening amazing doors. We appreciate so much your prayers for this growing work. Kris and Debbie Stout

GERMANY
This summer was a special summer for our team in Germany as the young third generation team was given the reigns in leading the youth camps. There were from 20-30 decisions made for Christ in every youth camp. What a joy it was to see a young Muslim teenager totally turn his life around, or a young gangster who had been involved in all kinds of criminal activities, as well as two young teenage girls who came from an orphanage. All of these going home with a totally new life in Christ. There were many young youth from Christian homes and good backgrounds who found Christ as well. One young lady who was witnessing at our Munich street meeting (one day is spent in street evangelism with every camp group) led a teenage girl to the Lord right on the street. 6010 people were blessed at one of our camp properties during the course of this year. This fall is very busy again with the Children's shows and Brass Christmas tour as well as the Winter camps in both Starnberg and The Manner in Kaernten Austria. Both centers are filling up quickly. Matt Hurja reports that the DTC program this year is going very well. Our goal is to stay focused on solid Biblical discipleship and growth in our lives of our students. Thanks for your prayers. The first summer of camps at Lade Koeris were great. Andy and Esther Wenzel

HUNGARY
Our camps last summer were filled to capacity with many decisions for Christ here in Hungary as well as Siberia. Our 15th year of Bible school opened with a special conference September 12-14. During these years 400 students from 27 countries have graduated and are now serving the Lord in all of those different countries. Right now, we have students from 12 countries at our Bible Institute. From Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Germany, the Netherlands, Uganda, Brazil, Canada, and USA. 170 leaders attended our annual Youth Leaders conference Sept. 26-28. The European missionary candidate school was held on our property in Oct. New missionaries were accepted for Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Uganda, and Serbia. We hosted our fall "Soccer Marathon" on October 6th with a record enrollment of teams for this event and many decisions for Christ. Our "Born Again Team, Children's Ministry, Sports Team, Bible Clubs, Music Teams, and Open Air Ministries" are all going strong this fall. Pray for many decisions for Christ. Also pray with us for the $9000 needed for a new van. Alex and Pam Konya

ITALY
This year has been packed with activities. May and June were filled with meetings, conferences, musicals, and open air evangelism. In July, the big event was our annual family day with 210 people in attendance. Then came the children's camp with 50 campers. 4 received Christ and 22 dedicated themselves to serve the Lord. There were 104 campers at the youth camp. Again, 3 received Christ and 61 dedications. Thank you for your prayers for my health. I am still struggling, but God is giving me strength to continue the work. Mario and Norma Portillo

KENYA
When we look back on the terrible events of last January, we can clearly see the hand of God in the things that happened to us. Phil. 1:12. This past August, we had day camps in the slums of Nairobi, because we could not use our property, duet safety concerns. We had 1080 kids and more than 100 decisions for Christ. One of the highlights was a Muslim girl who got saved and begged us to come back in December for the next camps. We have more request than we can handle for camps outside of our camp grounds. Please pray for wisdom as we talk to neighbors about returning to our property and for finances needed for our December camps. Chris and Theresa Mwalw'a

POLAND
What a great summer we had in youth camps and mission camps. 79 youth attended our camp with 26 receiving Christ. During the missions Evangelistic camps we spoke to 600 people personally on the streets of two cities and had an average of 150 people in attendance every night with evangelistic films and a salvation message. At the present time, we are doing Bible Clubs in 15 churches and are experiencing great results in many of these clubs. We have developed a new game called "Friends Feud" and this is attracting many new youth to the clubs. Just last week, one club with 11 youth invited their friends to this program and 35 of their friends came. We have just accepted 3 single people and once couple onto our staff this year to work with us in expanding our Bible club program. Pray for these new workers that we will be able to get the needed support for them. Something else that is new for us is the Skype discipleship program that we are doing. Twice a week we join each other for a Bible study over the Internet. This is really taking off. We would appreciate your prayers for this program. Tim and Ginny Good

PORTUGAL
Praise the Lord with us for the dozens of salvation and dedications at our camps this summer. We are now in the process of producing our Bible Club material for this year and are in need of another $4000 to complete this project. Our businessmen/leadership banquet was a fantastic event with 120 people present. Six of these men accepted Christ. A church fro Woodstock sent a crew of 20 men along with 2 full containers to build the addition in our auditorium. What a joy to see God's protection and provision during this time. Dave and Pat West

ROMANIA
What a wonderful camp season we experienced this past summer. 99 received Christ, among them 12 boys and 7 girls of Turkish origin. Over 80 attended a five day Word of Life camp in Greece with several decisions for Christ. As a result of this camp, the Lord paved the way for expansion of our Bible clubs in Greece. 35 young men and women, many Muslims, attended our first Word of Life camp in Turkey. Again, several accepted Christ and many of them asked to be taught how to have a daily quiet time. Our Bible Club in Istanbul opened again in October this year. We are so thankful for the groups that have come over from America to help us with the building of our new property in Romania. What a joy, after many years of building and raising funds, to be able to welcome our first class of students at our "Word of Life Romanian Discipleship Training Center." Please pray with us for the needed funds for three students who still need help. $3900 is needed by May next year. Juan and Kim Siles

UKRAINE
What a great summer we experienced in Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Hundreds of youth, boys and girls accepted Christ and again we have young men and women from all of these countries and many others at our Bible Institute. We thank God for the 95 students now in attendance and pray for the Lord's working in their lives. Students from Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Turkey, Serbia, Bosnia, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Poland, and Uzbekistan. All told in Word of Life BI in Hungary and Ukraine we have 17 countries represented. What a joy to see these students develop and prepare for future service. Pray for our "Born Again to a Living Hope" teams that are again in many High schools and Universities. We have just experienced a terrible fire and Jon Mark's as well as our house (a duplex) both burned to the ground. We would be so thankful for any help, financial or otherwise, to rebuild these homes. Please call Nehemiah Network (518-494-6270) and speak to Butch Jarrel if you can help. To send funds, write check to Word of Life, for: Ukraine Fire Project. Jorge and Laura Radziwiluk

UNITED KINGDOM
Here is an update on what has been happening during the last few months in the UK. School Assemblies and Classroom visits continue in Northern Ireland and Scotland. At our "Splash down" in Scotland, we had two who trusted Christ. Our Northern summer camp in Sunderland as well as our Southern camp in Devon were well attended with many decisions for Christ. This past summer we also had evangelistic weeks in Central Scotland, in Milton Keynes, Sunderland, in Somerset, an din another town in Scotland at the end of August. Again, many responded for salvation. One of our associate leaders, Laura Momis, developed a new event geared towards girls, called "Refresh." It confronts young women with God's perspective of beauty and personal values. This had become a great avenue for evangelism. 30 young associate staff members attended staff conference just recently. Because of this group, we are able to carry out so many activities with such a small full time staff. Thank you for your prayers for our work in this needy land. Dave and Cheri Kelso

Bob and Betts Parschauer: December 2008

Dear Friends and Supporters:

This morning I was reading in Mark 8:2. Jesus said to His disciples, "I have compassion on the multitude because they have continued with me for three days and have not eaten."

Oh that we would have that kind of compassion for people! I see the needs of these people in Europe and the hunger for the things of God in Eastern Europe, but I know that I do not have that kind of compassion for them. I do long to help them, and I trust that these reports will motivate you to pray for our missionaries and be involved in any way that is possible for you.

Was it not the compassion of our Lord that brought Him to be born in a manger, live in the sinful world, shed His blood, die and be raised from the dead. Was it not that compassion that brought salvation and the promise of eternal life with Him in the future? Yes it was! That is the story that began over 2000 years ago with the first Christmas.

As some of you know, I had the privilege of traveling to Europe again this past summer. This trip to Poland, Germany, and Czech Republic left a deep impression on my mind. There are so many needs and so few workers. The camps all over Europe again were very fruitful as hundreds of boys and girls, young people and even a good number of adults accepted Christ. After I returned, Betts and I were able to witness the ordination of both Bobby and Brent. That was a very joyous experience for us. After this experience we traveled out to Ohio for a Parschauer reunion. What a joy to be together with many of our family who are spread all over America and Canada.

We just completed a tour with Concert Pianist Gregor Breier and our Word of Life Director of Bulgaria, Sergie and Tania Tyshcenko, (25 concerts), and were overwhelmed with the generosity of God's people during this economic crisis. The people gave almost $20,000 in offerings and pledges for our work in Bulgaria. PTL! This family is still in need of another $600 personal monthly support. They are a wonderful family and worthy of our support. The funds that we raised will help them purchase a van and finances for their winter camp. Their greatest need is for a center where they can meet with the young people that they are working with. Please be in prayer that this will become a reality.

At the present time, I am in the process of setting up three more tours for next spring. The Word of Life German Brass Ensemble will be here in March, Juan Silas with our new missionary to Turkey, in March and April and in June the Tyschenko's with Gregor Breier once again. Thank you for your prayers as I contact churches regarding these tours.

As you read over the following reports from our ministries in Europe and Africa, please be in prayer for our leaders as well as our co-workers. It is such a joy for me to represent them here in America. We just heard that Jorge and Laura Radziwiluk, our Ukraine director, lost their house in a fire November 19. They are in need of $100,000 to replace it. Both apartments are destroyed. Please be in prayer that God will, in a miraculous way, provide for this family during this crisis time.

We would again ask for your prayer for Betts and me that God would give us wisdom as we deal with yet another challenge with cancer. Here is a short note that Betts wrote to some of her closest friends expressing our feelings at this time.

"There's no need to explain the emotions and thoughts that go with finding out from the recent biopsy report that the small lump on my left chest wall was cancerous. You can well imagine this for yourselves. In fact, we aren't sure just now what course of action to pursue even though there are a few options that we are checking out. After 24 years of such a challenging journey, it quickly becomes "old hat", so to speak, when there's another bump in the road. One thing is for certain though-we need your supportive and caring prayers as we humbly ask our Abba Father what he would have us to do. Wishing I could say more-but I guess this time I'll wrap myself in my "Love Blanket" quilt and let God do some more hugging on me. "

We know that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord and He is already working in our lives through these circumstances that have once again come our way.

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support for our ministries in Europe and for us personally.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Yar to all of you.

Our love and prayers,

Bob and Betts

Bob & Betts Parschauer - October 2008

Dear Friends and Supporters:

This morning I was reading Psalm 72 and verse 17 was impressed upon my heart. "His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in Him; all nations shall call Him blessed." This will finally take place during the 1000 year reign of Christ on this earth but we can praise His name which is everlasting, even now, and we desire to do that with all of our hearts, because He has done so much and is doing so much for us.

This summer has come and gone so quickly that we hardly know what happened. The trip to Europe is still very much on our minds, it seems like yesterday I was in Poland, Czech Republic, and Germany with Voltaire. What a great time we had. As we mentioned, our two sons Bobby and Brent were ordained on July 20/2008, we had a wonderful family reunion after that with many of our family, as well as John Parschauer's family from Sandusky, OH. The reunion was held at Judy and Chuck's farm just outside of Cleveland, OH.

It was so much fun just being together after not seeing each other for so many years. The grand kids, moms and dads and grand parents all enjoyed horseback riding, four wheeling, driving tractors, target shooting, playing in the hay loft, and every night sitting around a camp fire, singing and fellowshipping with each other. WE told stories to the kids and watched the sun go down. It was like our own little summer camp as a family. I hope it won't be too long until we can do that again.

After returning back from Florida, I had much to do to catch up with all the office work and have been involved during the rest of the summer with setting up the next tours for our European teams.

Our next tour will be from October 17 - November 9, 2008 with Concert Pianist Gregor Breier and our Word of Life Bulgaria director Sergii and Tania Tyshchenko. We are asking the Lord for $30,000 in offerings and pledges during the tour. We would especially ask for you to pray for the people that we will be ministering to. I would ask for strength for me and that the Spirit of God would use my messages to challenge hearts towards missions. There are so many needs all over the world and especially now, we need your prayers as the economy is hurting and people are being very careful with their finances. We will be doing about 25 concerts and would ask that you look at the schedule and pray for us especially during this time.

Right now, Betts ans I are at our son Bobby's watching over our three grandchildren while Bobby and Jen are ministering in Austria. After they return, we will go to the Cancer Treatment Center in Philadelphia again for Betts' "Six-Month" check up. We appreciate your prayers so much regarding this.

On October 3rd, we will arrive home in order to do the last minute preparations for the tour and begin preparing for the next tours.

Thank you again so much for your faithful support and prayers for us. We could not be doing this work without you. Please send us your prayer requests as we pray for you all every week.

Our Love and Prayers,

Bob & Betts Parschauer

Bob and Betts Parschauer - July 08

Dear Friends and Supporters,

My quite time passage last Saturday was from Philippians 4:14 – 23. Especially verses 15 – 17 struck me as I thought of all of you who are so faithfully supporting us with your prayers and finances. “Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.”

I just returned from Europe, last Wednesday, July 9th. While I was there I saw much fruit in Poland, Czech Republic and Germany, that is “fruit that abounds to your account”. Thank you so much for giving us the privilege of serving these countries, because of your faithful financial and prayer support.

Voltaire Andrews, a young singer from our church traveled with me this time. It was such a joy to see the response of the campers and churches to his singing. We flew to Warsaw where we met with a number of people that we had led to Christ way back during the communist rule. What a joy to see them now as leaders. That was Saturday night. On Sunday morning we sang and spoke at a little church that has just recently been planted by one of these leaders. ”Fruit that abounds to your account”.

Before we got on the plane again we met and had lunch with another young man that I led to Christ when he was 13 years old. He is now working with a US based mission, encouraging and schooling local Pastors in Poland. “fruit that abounds to your account”.

On Sunday afternoon we flew on to Gedansk where we were met by one of the BI students from Poland who was in my Missions class at Word of Life Ukraine BI last December. What a great reunion! We drove two hours to the camp in Northern Poland where we just made it in time to sing and give testimony on the first night of the camp. The next five days were filled with activities. Each morning the workers met at 6:45 AM. I taught lessons from Ephesians during the morning Bible hours and gave the first evangelist message on Monday night. 16 young people responded for salvation. During this camp 26 youth received Christ into their hearts. On Thursday night as I gave the invitation, during the camp fire dedication meeting, 43 young people dedicated their lives to serve the Lord where ever He would lead them. PTL! “fruit that abounds to your account”.

One other experience that thrilled my heart was to meet two young men from Uganda, (presently Bible School students at our Word of Life BI in Hungary) who are helping Tim Good, our Polish director, with the camps in Poland this summer. After I got to know them they said, “Bob, we are products of your faithfulness over the years. Our Director Tom is from Word of Life Kenya and you are responsible for us being here today. We both came to Christ through Tom’s ministry”. Again I thought of the far reaching results of the ministries that God has entrusted to us over the years. “Fruit that abounds to your account”.

On Friday we drove to Berlin Germany to our new property on Klein Koriser Lake. It was great to meet with several of our staff from Starnberg as well as Matt Hurja and Joe Frick who are leaders of our BI in Germany. “Fruit that abounds to your account”. From there it was off to Czech Republic, first to Prag, where I was able to show Voltaire this beautiful old city. One of the only cities in Europe that was not bombed during the II world war. It never ceases to amaze me at the beauty and also the history of these old cities in Europe.

From there we drove another two hours out to the Word of Life Center in Cema Hora and were met by Rich Hood and his family and also visited with Julie and Marack, Rick & Vi Brook’s daughter and son in-law, who are helping with the camp program this summer.

On Sunday morning it was up to Pardubice to minister in the morning worship service. There we were met by Peter and Dana Kotasova whom we visited during the communist rule in 1986 with our German Brass Ensemble. Had a great meeting at that time in the city hall with many decisions for salvation. “Fruit that abounds to your account”. After lunch together, we headed back to the camp for the first meeting of the camp season in Czech Republic this summer. On Monday back to Berlin for another meeting and then back to Florida on Tuesday after 27 hours of not being in bed.

Tomorrow Betts and I leave for CT where we will meet both Bobby and Brent who will be ordained at Christian Fellowship Church in Scotland CT. This was one of many churches that their Grand Father started before they were born.

After that we will drive to OH to a Parschauer reunion at my sister’s farm near Cleveland and finally arrive back in Florida on July 31st.

This sounds somewhat hectic, but really it will be a wonderful time of reunion with many of our supporters in that area. We are so thankful for all of you and want to remind you that there is “much fruit that abounds to your account”, not only in the three countries that we visited, but all over Europe. Please be in prayer for the Word of Life camps in almost 20 countries in Europe this summer.

Thank you again for your faithful support and prayers for us as a family. We love you and are praying for you.

Yours in His Service

Bob & Betts Parschauer
